Event description:

Media coverage of the Middle East portrays Jews and Muslims as sworn enemies, what often leads to overlooking the complex and multifaceted history of the relations between Judaism and Islam. This 4-episode documentary series explores the contacts between the two religions from the emergence of Islam in the seventh century C.E. to nowadays, wishing to bridge the gap towards a better understanding of these clashing identities.

Origins (610-721) is an account of the birth of Islam and a history of the expansion of the Muslim State in the Middle East and North Africa, where the local populations fell under the sword of Islam. While polytheists were treated harshly, with little choice but converting to Islam, Jews and Christians were permitted to keep their religions in a dual position according to the law of the new state: protected, but restricted.
