Event description:
The presentation will explore the Sasanian Zoroastrian sources, with particular focus on two major Middle Persian texts of the fifth and sixth centuries that reveal features that connect their redactors with late antique intellectual currents. Dr. Moazami will demonstrate the link between a number of trends that manifested themselves over much of the world of late antiquity, among them the increasing scholasticization of religious doctrine, the turn to scripture as the major source of authority, and the application of scholastic methods to scriptural interpretation.
