Hugo ka Canham is a writer and professor at the University of South Africa. He studies multispecies life in black geographies at the margins of human value, suffering and death—black planetary studies. His book, Riotous Deathscapes (2023) is published by Duke University Press. Black Undertow is forthcoming with Duke University Press in 2026. Both books are co-published by Wits University Press.
