Stefano Piantino
PhD Student
Before joining Yale, Stefano earned a Laurea (BA, 2021) and a Laurea Magistrale (MA, 2024) in Comparative Literature from the University of Turin. He is interested in the transcultural socio-environmental implications of epic narratives. He researched this topic in the Italian context, from the perspective of genre, narratology, and literary theory. He is expanding his research into the blue humanities, with a comparative approach and a particular interest in how water destabilizes the structures and conventions of canonical and Early Modern epics in Europe (as epics are a transcultural and European phenomenon) and Japan, fluidifying identities and complicating or negotiating borders.
