Hellenic Studies joins the European Studies Council, Strengthening European Connections

The Hellenic Studies Program at Yale University has joined the European Studies Council (ESC), reuniting the program with the Council and strengthening its connections with the broader community of scholars, students, and programs focused on Europe at Yale. Hellenic Studies spent the past several years housed within Global Programs. 

Costas Arkolakis, Faculty Director of Hellenic Studies, welcomed the transition and expressed appreciation for the Global Programs staff. 

“I am very excited that Hellenic Studies is now housed administratively within the European Studies Council, which will create new opportunities for collaboration and strengthen our connections across the broader European Studies community. I am also deeply grateful to the Global Programs team, especially Mark Roland, Sarah Hopkins, and Tarana Jafarova, for their tremendous administrative support and partnership in helping Hellenic Studies reach this point. This new chapter offers an exciting foundation for continued growth, collaboration, and innovation in Hellenic Studies at Yale.

The scholarship, teaching, and intellectual community of this vibrant and longstanding program already make a crucial contribution to the study of Europe. Council members and staff eagerly anticipate the dynamism, collaborations, and opportunities that that this next phase will bring to Yale.

Hellenic Studies joins existing programs in Baltic Studies, European Union Studies, and Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies within the European Studies Council, part of Yale University’s MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies.
