Inside/Outside: Space and Belonging in the Environmental Humanities

Environmental Humanities welcomes you to their first panel event of the semester! At “Inside/Outside: Space and Belonging in the Environmental Humanities,” we will think about how humans occupy natural and built environments and how these spaces shape the culture and practices of societies. The panel features three voices in the Environmental Humanities here at Yale:
Sunil Amrith, The Renu and Anand Dhawan Professor of History
Kishwar Rizvi, Professor of Islamic Art and Architecture
Paul Burrow, a graduate student in Anthropology and at the Yale School of the Environment
The panelists will speak about American ecosystems and their political and cultural importance for indigenous groups, the intersections of ecology and human migration in South and Southeast Asia, and the architectural and cultural importance of Islamic architectural spaces, in relation to human experience and memory.
Space will open up to a moderated group conversation after panelist presentations.
