Event description:

New Haven is home to incredible mosaic of cultures, languages and histories from around the world, so it’s no surprise that there are vibrant communities here from across the breadth of Middle East and Africa. In this special celebration, we connect with these communities through food, music and histories. Join us for concurrent panels with Sanctuary Kitchen chefs, community leaders and refuges activists on making New Haven home; and Professor Shawkat Toorawa (Chair, Department of Near East Languages & Civilizations) as he explores the medieval Arab culinary arts. We will feature food from Sudan, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan – with a chance to speak to chefs about their repasts and stories. There’ll be a special musical accompaniment from New Haven artist Iraqi-born Mustafa Adel on the oud. The entire community is welcome!
