Book panel discussion with Priyasha Mukhopadhyay, Department of English & Evren Savci, Department of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Yale University.
Samia Khatun Book, Australianama Charts the history of South Asian diaspora, weaving together stories of various peoples colonized by the British Empire. It is an evocative and gracefully written reflection on cultural encounters between aboriginals and Indians in the outback, from the nineteenth century. Khatun shows that stories in colonized tongues can transform the very ground from which we view the past, present, and future.

Samia Khatun is a writer, filmmaker and cultural historian and her research focus on the experiences, knowledge, and life-worlds of colonized peoples in South Asia and Australia. Since completing a Ph.D. at the University of Sydney, Samiahas held postdoctoral positions at the Zentrum Moderner Orient in Berlin and at the University of Melbourne. Based in Dhaka, she is currently building a history program at the University of Liberal Arts, Bangladesh. Samia’s documentaries on race and nationalism have been screened by Australian national broadcasters and her monograph, Australianama: The South Asian Odyssey in Australia was published in December 2018.
