Museum & Lunch: Summer Get Together at The Amistad Center for Art & Culture
Kick off summer break with a GLC summer get together. Join us for an informal visit to Amistad Culture to explore Wendel A. White’s new exhibit, Manifest | Thirteen Colonies. This powerful collection is the culmination of White's multiyear project documenting African American material culture found within the archives of the original thirteen colonies. From significant artifacts like Frederick Douglass’s hair and Malcolm X’s tape recorder to everyday items like a hair straightening comb, the exhibit serves as a personal reliquary of Black agency and history. After a self-guided tour of the gallery, we’ll head to a local spot for lunch and an informal conversation about the work. Lunch will be provided!
Participation Requirements:
This field trip is exclusively for K–12 teachers. Due to limited capacity, registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and should plan to meet at the museum. Those selected to attend will receive a confirmation email with additional information closer to the trip date.
