Algorithms and Atrocities: An Open House for the MADE Fellowship
Rhiannon Neilsen is Assistant Professor in International Security at the Marxe School of Public & International Affairs, Baruch College, City University of New York (CUNY). Her research sits at the intersection of international security (specifically conflict), new technologies, and ethics. She also draws on moral and political philosophy to consider the case for deploying disinformation and deception to parry atrocity crimes. Most recently, she was the Cyber Security Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) at Stanford University.
Her first book, Algorithms & Atrocities, is under contract with Oxford University Press (Bridging the Gap series). It examines how cyber-operations, social media, and (generative-)AI has been used to perpetrate mass atrocities, and how such technologies might help prevent such crimes. She focuses on the viability and ethics of (what she calls) 'cyber humanitarian interventions'.
This event is open to the public and also serves as an open house for the MADE fellowship. Interested students are welcome to join in and experience a MADE meeting. Applications are now open here.
