Maria Kaliambou Publishes Essay on Historians of Immigrant Communities
Maria Kaliambou, Senior Lector II at the Hellenic Studies Program, published an essay titled “Lay Editors as Historians of Immigrant Communities: A Case Study of Commemorative Albums by the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Community in Palos Heights, Illinois” in the collective volume titled Writing and Reading European Migrant Belonging in Early 20th Century North America (edited by Saijaleena Rantanen, Kirsti Salmi-Niklander, and Samira Saramo, published by the Migration Institute of Finland in Helsinki). In this collaborative volume that explores the book culture of Finnish, Swedish, Greek, and Croatian North American immigrant communities, Kaliambou’s essay delves into the role of community historiographers as producers of public knowledge.
