He is a political economist whose research examines the determinants of democratic stability and the economic, technological, and political factors that shape the long-run viability of liberal democratic institutions. His work focuses on the state bureaucracy and its relationships with political actors and citizens, as well as the management and transmission of information in contexts of increasing media pluralism. His research seeks to inform the design of democratic institutions capable of withstanding adverse economic and social shocks.
