Devin Stewart, B.A. Princeton University 1984, Ph.D. University of Pennsylvania in 1991, teaches in the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies, Emory University, where he is the Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies. His research interests include Qur’anic studies, Shiite Islam, Islamic law, medieval education, biographies, and other topics. He is the author of Islamic Legal Orthodoxy: Twelver Shiite Responses to the Sunni Legal System (Utah University Press, 1998) and Disagreements of the Jurists: A Manual of Islamic Legal Theory (New York University Press, 2015) and a number.
