Kate Macfarlane

Graduate School Student

Kate Macfarlane is a doctoral candidate in International Relations at the Australian National University. Her work examines the long term reintegration experiences of child soldiers in Sri Lanka and Nepal, with a particular focus on the experience of girls. She received an Endeavour Fellowship to undertake fieldwork in Sri Lanka, where she is currently based in Colombo. Prior to commencing her studies, Kate worked at the ANU providing research and administrative support on a number of large ARC research grants, including work with Professor John Braithwaite on the long-term project ‘Peacebuilding Compared’ at the Regulatory Institutions Network (RegNet). She has also worked in Beijing, China in the NGO development sector. Kate’s research interests include children and armed conflict, human security, gender and South Asia.
