2025-26 REEESNe Student Conference
Call for Proposals
REEESNe is holding its annual FREE student conference at The University of Pittsburgh on March 20-22, 2026. Convening in conjunction with The University of Pittsburgh's annual European & Eurasian Undergraduate Research Symposium and Graduate Organization for the Study of Europe and Central Asia (GOSECA) Conference, this event brings together students from across the northeast and beyond. The conference features panels of student research presentations, roundtables for sharing student experiences (with research, study abroad, internships, volunteering, etc.), a professionalization panel with alumni who have applied their REEES-related expertise to diverse careers, cultural events, and more.
ELIGIBILTY: Undergraduate and master’s-level students enrolled at higher education institutions in the United States and beyond may apply. Preference for financial assistance will be given to graduate students in North America and undergraduate or graduate students affiliated with REEESNe member institutions in the US Northeast. All applicants whose presentation proposals are accepted will be considered for financial aid. Presenting at the conference is only possible in person, except for at-risk students whose home institution made advance arrangements with the conference hosts. In-person attendance for non-participants is permitted without registration (we ask that only participants join in the meals).
Submission Deadline: January 5, 2026 (notifications of application outcomes and funding decisions will be made early in 2026)
Before Applying: Be sure to read the conference's full call for proposals, including the overview of the conference theme and subthemes, by downloading our conference description (note that the due date has been extended from Dec. 12, 2025 to Jan. 5 2026). Please also inquire at your university/college (and any departments, programs, or centers associated with the study of Europe, Russia, and Eurasia) about conference funding. When you submit your application, you will need to provide an assessment of your ability to draw upon institutional and/or personal (i.e. non-REEESNe and non-University-of-Pittsburgh) resources for your travel and accommodations
How to Apply: please submit your contact and student details, your 300-word paper/presentation proposal(s), and your assessment of financial need (including available resources from your institution/department) using our online form
