High school students in and around New Haven will have an opportunity to learn languages at Yale that are not offered at their schools thanks to the University’s innovative Programs in International Educational Resources (PIER).
Languages being offered are Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, German, Italian, Japanese, KiSwahili, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, and Zulu.
The one-and-a half-hour classes meet once a week at 4 p.m on the Yale campus from October to May. While the program costs $360 plus the purchase price of textbooks, New Haven public school students are eligible to participate for free through a special scholarship. A minimum of five students is required for a course to be offered.
To register, students must complete the online application at www.yale.edu/macmillan/pier/hsclp no later than Oct. 1, 2012. Please note that classes fill up quickly.
