Ephrem Abathun

Director, Ethiopia Programs

Ephrem Abathun, RN, MPH, PhD, and holder of a Diploma in Palliative Care, is the Director of Hospice Ethiopia and an Assistant Professor of Palliative Care at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College. With over sixteen years of professional experience, Dr. Abathun has established himself as a leading figure in the field of palliative care in Ethiopia. Since joining Hospice Ethiopia in 2010, he has been deeply involved in clinical practice, research, education, and policy development aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of palliative services nationwide. 

 

Dr. Abathun’s contributions extend beyond clinical work to include the training of healthcare professionals, the development of national palliative care manuals, and the provision of consultancy and advocacy services that have shaped national health strategies. In his academic role, he is dedicated to teaching and mentoring medical students, as well as supporting the growth and function of the palliative care unit at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College.
