Maria Jordan

Senior Lector, Spanish & Portuguese; Lecturer History

María V. Jordán is a senior lector in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and Lecturer in the Department of History.  She was trained in Spanish Literature and History at the Universidad de Puerto Rico (Río Piedras) and the University of Minnesota (M.A., Ph.d.). She has held fellowships from the Spanish Ministry of Culture and from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  She is particularly interested in the literature and cultural history of Early  Modern Spain and more recently in Early Modern Latin America.  Her research has concentrated on the prophetic tradition  as well as  dreams in the literature and history of the Hispanic world.  In the History Department, she has taught courses on “Women in the Hispanic World” and on “Dissidence and Authority in Early Modern Spain.”  She joined the Yale faculty in 1998.  From 2004-2008 she served as the Associate Master of Ezra Stiles College.
