Ellen Bates-Jefferys
Senior Research Manager, Y-RISE
Ellen Bates-Jefferys is Senior Research Manager at Y-RISE. In this role, she leads the management of Y-RISE research projects, working closely with research, policy, and implementation teams to further the Y-RISE mission of advancing the science of scaling.
Ellen comes to Yale with more than six years' experience working with a wide range of stakeholders to implement complex research agendas. She has implemented randomized controlled trials in low-income settings, focusing on services to marginalized populations; conducted iterative testing, qualitative research, and research pilots; and contributed to guidelines to improve research methods and ethics practices for gender-based violence research.
Before becoming a researcher, Ellen worked in the nonprofit sphere, where she supported programs ranging from organizational financial health promotion to services for women impacted by sexual violence. Ellen has a master’s degree in international development policy with a concentration in applied economics from Duke University and a bachelor’s degree in religion and economics from Lake Forest College.
