Saha Kumar

Saha Kumar grew up in Oregon. She began her undergraduate career studying computer engineering at Oregon State University before transferring to UC San Diego, where she completed her B.A. in Japanese Studies — including a year abroad at Keio University in Tokyo. Her senior thesis examined the literary significance of swords in Japanese classical literature. At Yale, her 
research interests center on the cultural and material history of Tokugawa Japan, particularly how objects come to signify “Japaneseness” and later inform national identity.

Outside of her studies, Saha is a trained opera singer and an avid motorcyclist. When she’s not carving canyons, she can be found enjoying a hot drink and rereading the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.
