Yan JING was born in Jiangsu, China. She recently graduated from Nanjing Normal University with a B.A. in English and Japanese. Her undergraduate thesis examined postwar Japanese films directed by Kinuyo Tanaka, exploring how women’s perspectives shape cinematic representations of war and colonial memory. At Yale, she hopes to deepen her research on Japanese film and its intersections with gender, history, and memory in modern East Asia. Outside of academia, Yan enjoys traveling, photography, and baking.
