This international and interdisciplinary conference seeks to showcase current research and foster exchange between students, postdocs, and faculty working across diverse disciplines on the most pressing challenges facing Europe, Russia, and Eurasia today.

We invite proposals for individual papers and complete panels from graduate students and early-career scholars from around the world enrolled at universities/colleges. Students from any academic field are welcome to apply. We welcome submissions of high-quality research related to Europe, Russia, and Eurasia in disciplines including, but not limited to:
- Political Science
- History
- Sociology
- Anthropology
- Security Studies
- Film and Media Studies
- Economics
- Literature
- Cultural Studies
- Law
- Environmental Studies
- Public Health

In the backdrop of Russia’s war against Ukraine, we are especially receptive to initiatives that further the decentralization and decolonization of the study of the former “communist bloc” of the Soviet Union, Central and Eastern Europe, and Eurasia at large.

The conference will feature research panels of paper presentations. Participants will have 10-12 minutes to present their papers (max 2,000 words and distributed in advance to a discussant) in English. All papers of the conference will be published in an online journal of conference proceedings. Each presentation will be followed by feedback from a discussant and comments from the audience. Proposals for complete panels of thematically related papers are strongly encouraged. Accepted individual papers will be placed onto a panel organized by format and theme, will receive feedback from a discussant, and will be given time to discuss questions with the audience. We strive to create a safe space for new scholars to present their ideas.

We are especially excited to collaborate and welcome proposals from graduate students from the University of London, institutions of The International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), and partner institutions of the Fox International Fellowship.

All accepted participants will have certain travel costs covered by the European Studies Council, as well as lodging in a hotel close to Yale’s campus.

Applications DUE: February 15, 2024
Applicants will be informed of their proposal status by February 20.
Those accepted to present will be asked to submit a complete paper by April 01. Following the conference, a deadline will be announced by which participants should submit revised papers.
