Chris Howell

Chris Howell is a political scientist specializing in comparative politics, comparative political economy, and industrial relations. His research explores the changing relationship between states, labor movements and business across the advanced capitalist world, with a particular interest in patterns of convergence and divergence. Chris had written on these developments in France, Britain, the Nordic countries and Australia. His most recent books are Trajectories of Neoliberal Transformation: European Industrial Relations Since the 1970s (with Lucio Baccaro), Cambridge University Press, 2017, and Nordic Neoliberalisms: Perspectives on Economic, Social and Cultural Change in the Nordics after 1970 (with Jenny Andersson), Routledge, 2025. Chris received his PhD from Yale University and has taught at Oberlin College, where he is emeritus, and Yale-NUS College. He is also Honorary Professor in Work & Organisational Studies at the University of Sydney Business School.
