Faith Maritim

B.A., Council on African Studies

Faith Maritim is a graduate of Yale College, Class of 2026, with a B.A. in Global Affairs and a B.A. in African Studies. At Yale, she worked under the mentorship of Dr. Veronica Waweru and Dr. j Siguru Wahutu, applying a decolonial lens to humanitarian studies and security policy in Africa. Her senior thesis investigates the relationship between humanitarian data reporting and media narratives surrounding conflict-related sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, arguing that the two mutually reinforce one another in ways that distort, and sometimes erase, the lived realities of the most vulnerable communities. She hopes to bring this work into practice through a gender and security research organization in East Africa, before pursuing further graduate study.
