Henry Zhang
Fox International Fellow
Drawing from political economy, medical humanities, and aesthetics, Henry Zhang's research representations of organ harvesting in Northeast China, the region formerly known as Manchuria. His work examines materials ranging from the cultural production of the exiled Chinese religious movement Falun Gong to Chinese American fiction about Japanese biological experiments, asking how accounts of Chinese bodies and state violence are shaped by the ethnic, national, and geopolitical contexts in which they circulate. Before Yale, Henry completed an MA at Beijing Normal University, writing a thesis on the cultural politics of the dissident poet, Bei Dao's translation into English.
