Rawia Tawfik is an associate professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Politics from the University of Oxford. She was a researcher at the German Development Institute/ Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) (now the German Institute of Development and Sustainability-IDOS) in Bonn and a visiting research fellow at the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) and the Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA). She is an advisory board member of the African Peacebuilding Network (APN) of the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), New York, and an editorial board member of African Studies Review, the flagship journal of the US-based African Studies Association. Her research interests include African development, regional integration, and resource-based conflicts, especially conflicts over transboundary rivers in Africa, and the Nile basin in particular, comparative politics especially areas of governance and democratization, and the foreign policy of regional powers in Africa and the Middle East. Her work on these issues appeared in leading peer-reviewed journals, including African Studies, African Studies Review, Water Alternatives, Water Policy, Water International and International Negotiation.
