Eriko Kawajiri

Eriko Kawajiri is a Master’s candidate at the University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Her field of study focuses on promoting environmental conservation in and around agriculture while simultaneously ensuring the well-being and socioeconomic benefit of farmers and local residents. She holds a BSc in Agriculture from the same university, where her undergraduate research explored the use of living mulch, one of the practices associated with regenerative agriculture.
Having lived in South Africa during her elementary school days, she is particularly motivated to engage in research in Southern and Eastern Africa. In addition to volunteering for a reforestation project in the Kilimanjaro region, she has completed an internship visiting rice farmers across several regions in Tanzania. She is also interested in public-private partnerships, as well as the role of social businesses and startups emerging in this field.
