Tori Shucheng Yang is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of British Columbia. Her research interests include transnational migration, gender and sexuality, cultural sociology, and social theory. Her doctoral dissertation, titled "Shifting In/Visibilities: Chinese LGBTQ+ Migrants in North America," explores the intersectional identities and migration trajectories of Chinese LGBTQ+ migrants in the United States and Canada. Through her research, Tori hopes to shed light on the lived experiences of sexual minorities under authoritarian regimes and within the context of transnational movements. With an MA in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and a BA in History and Economics from the University of Virginia, Tori's academic journey is marked by a commitment to interdisciplinary engagement and research excellence. In addition to her academic pursuits, Tori is actively involved in the Chinese transnational LGBTQ+ community.
