Eliza Oak
Eliza is a first-year political science PhD student at Yale, broadly interested in International Political Economy, Comparative Politics of Development, and Quantitative Methods. Specifically, she hopes to better understand how political leaders respond to the pressures of globalization and regional integration and how this affects the politics and economics of developing countries. Eliza hopes to employ automation and natural language processing techniques to extract firm-
level trade data and individual-level social media data. She hopes to complement these big
data techniques with experimental and field data, engaging with firms and elites directly
through survey treatments, field experiments, and in-depth interviews with African political elites.
