Greek State Children’s Book Awards
The Hellenic Studies Program at Yale University will be the institutional base for the newly appointed arbitration committee for the Greek State Children’s Literature Book Awards, which are overseen by author and Professor Eugene Trivizas. The arbitration committee is under the supervision of George Syrimis. The Hellenic Studies Program will undertake the translation (at least in summary) and international presentation (in its website and elsewhere) of the two award winning books as well as work towards the strengthening and enhancing the international reputation of the State Literature Awards.
Children’s Book State Awards 2006
The Department of Letters announces the Children book State Prizes for the year 2006. The winners are as follows:
Children’s Book Award for Literature
The Children’s Book Award for Literature is bestowed equally and unanimously to Aggeliki Darlasi for the book Dream Guards (Patakis Press) and to Ioulita Iliopoulou for the book What is Zenon Looking for? (Ypsilon Press). Download English translation by George Syrimis.
Children’s Book Award for Illustration
The Children’s Book Award for Illustration is bestowed unanimously to Yiannis Kottis for the illustrations of the book by Ioulita Iliopoulou What is Zenon Looking for? (Ypsilon Press).
Book Award for Children’s Education
The Book Award for Children’s Education is bestowed unanimously to Mariza Decastro and to Panos Valavanis for the book Short Museum Stories: Treasures of the National Archeological Museum (Kastor Press).
Special Honorary Award for Illustration
The Special Honorary Award for Illustration is bestowed unanimously to marina Karkolin for the illustrations of the book “We Will Spend the Winter Together” said the Fir Tree by Manos Kontoleon (Patakis Press).
The translation of the books into English has been undertaken by the Hellenic Studies Program at Yale University, which will also oversee the book’s promotion abroad. The winning books will also be translated into braille for children with vision impairment.
In accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Culture, the Committee for the State Children’s Book Awards has operated, as in the previous year, with two experimental purposes:
1. to decentralize and internationalize of the institution of awards and
2. to ensure the transparency and objectivity of the Committee’s proceedings.
