Orthodox Baptism: Sites and Scenes

Since the Middle Ages, Orthodox worshippers in the area of the eastern Mediterranean have expressed their piety in the form of images, words, objects, and monuments. They built and decorated places of worship, inserting images of themselves or loved ones as supplicants before Christ, his mother, or the saints. These photographs document the ways in which the Orthodox faithful sought, and still seek, to proffer piety.
