"A Perspective on Greece's Sovereign Debt Crisis"
An update of the economic developments in Greece since the spring of 2010. The talk is a follow up to a panel the Hellenic Studies Program organized on April 28, 2010. Tassos Belessiotis went to school in Athens (Diploma), Leeds, UK (MA) and McMaster University, Ontario, Canada where he got his doctorate in economics. He has worked in economic policy first at the Ontario Economic Council, Toronto, and then in the Department of Finance, Government of Canada, Ottawa. He joined the Commission in 1989 as an economist in DG ECFIN where he did country desk and horizontal/surveillance work. As head of unit in DG Budget he worked on the revenue side of the EU budget leading up to the 2000 Own Resources Decision, and in DG Enterprise in the area of competitiveness. He is currently the European Union visiting Fellow at the European Union Studies Program at the MAcMillan Center, Yale University.
