Langdon Hammer Publishes Essay on C.P. Cavafy

Langdon Hammer, the Niel Gray, Jr. Professor of English at Yale University, published an essay on C.P. Cavafy in The Yale Review. Hammer is the author of James Merrill: Life and Art and coeditor of A Whole World: Letters from James Merrill with Stephen Yenser. He is currently working on a critical biography of Elizabeth Bishop. Hammer’s interest in Cavafy began in 1977 when his roommate Yannis gifted him a copy of the Keeley-Sherrard translation. After years of reading, he finally had the opportunity to write about Cavafy’s life and work for The Yale Review.
