Kruzhok - REEES Reading Group

The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies Reading Group meets to discuss works in progress in history and other related fields, usually dissertation chapters or drafts of articles. Members are graduate students and faculty in the Departments of History, Slavic Languages and Literature, Comparative Literature, Anthropology and Political Science, as well as in several other local universities and colleges. Meeting invitations are sent via e-mail and RSVPs are required. The group usually meets monthly on Friday nights during the term.

CONTACT: If you would like to join the mailing list, please email here

If you have questions about the group or are interested in presenting your work, please see the Call for Speakers Form and enter.

Format: During Kruzhoks, graduate students and professors gather to have an informal dinner (45 mins to an hour), followed by the speaker's presentation and discussion of a pre-circulated reading. We strongly encourage introductory remarks no longer than 10 mins (20 mins maxium), since we focus strongly on the discussion element during our Kruzhoks.

Pre-circulated reading: Unpublished work/work in progress is required of graduate student presenters and strongly recommended for faculty, post-doctoral researchers, and visiting scholars. We encourage the circulation of a writing to serve as an anchor for the discussion.
