On April 9, 2025, the Hellenic Studies Program welcomed Profossor Nikolaos Chr. Stampolidis, General Director of the Acropolis Museum, to deliver the 2025 Annual Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) lecture. This lecture explores the dynamic field of public archaeology in contemporary Greece. Using the ancient Cretan city of Eleutherna as a case study, it illustrates how public archaeology integrates scientific research, cultural heritage management, digital technologies, public engagement, tourism, and economic considerations. The lecture highlights how these elements enhance the dissemination and accessibility of archaeological knowledge. Watch below:
Professor Stampolidis also participated in a panel discussion titled ""Repatriating Cultural Heritage: The Parthenon Marbles and Beyond" alongside Costas Arkolakis (Director, Hellenic Studies Program), Antolia Bartoli (Curator of Provenance Research, Yale University Art Gallery), Marilena Christodoulou (Deputy Executive Director, Rubin Museum of Art), and Milette Gaifman (Prof. of Classics and History of Art).
