C. Anne Claus - K. Sivaramakrishnan Reflection

How lucky we are to have learned from Shivi! In the classroom, he keeps things engaging without trying too hard—he has a genuine interest in the material and a way of explaining it that sticks. Outside of it, he is constantly doing small, helpful things that add up over time: making introductions, writing recommendations, pointing students in the right direction. His door was often open, and even when it wasn't, he somehow made time—answering questions, offering perspective, or just listening without making it a production. His advice is practical, and refreshingly clear, the kind you can actually use. Shivi pays attention to his students and advisees, which sounds simple, but isnʼt, and it makes a difference.

Just imagine all of the grad students who follow his ways of engaging with their own grad students—such a legacy to leave.
