The Modern South Asia Workshop (MSAW) is an annual, two-day convening which brings together advanced graduate students working on topics of current interest in modern South Asian Studies. Through 18 iterations, the MSAW has provided participants the opportunity to engage in scholarly dialogue with peers from around the region and globe, as well as faculty from the humanities and social sciences.

Eligibility

MSAW participation is restricted to advanced PhD students in the humanities and social sciences who:
      a) have completed all coursework and fieldwork and
      b) are in the process of writing and submitting their dissertations at the time of the workshop.

Students in terminal master’s programs are not eligible to apply, nor are recent PhD graduates. Applicants located at institutions in South and Southeast Asia are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application Timeline

A call for applications to the MSAW is typically circulated in November each year. Applicants are typically informed of the outcome of their submissions by February, and finalists are expected to submit their completed papers by the end of March.
