In France, Sciences Po is associated with the political elite. It seems impossible to be at Sciences Po and not to have a relative asking whether you want to become Prime minister or Head of State – the reality is a bit different. Sciences Po prepares students for very diverse careers, in public and private sector alike. The first three years of graduate study are interdisciplinary. Students learn from a wide range of disciplines from the humanities and social sciences. Depending on your choice of master’s degree, you can become high civil servant, judge, lawyer, journalist, consultant, or academic. Research at Sciences Po focuses on political science – with a very active department of political theory – sociology, international relations, law and economics. Sciences Po’s library was the first social sciences library in continental Europe. A special library is reserved for the use of doctoral students only.

Sciences Po has the advantage to be located at the core of Paris, in the very chic quarter of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, known for his intellectual and cultural influence in the post-Second World War era. Intellectual and artists of this epoch met in cafés and nightclubs. Near the Seine, the quarter is well connected to the system of public transportation.

Sciences Po has become a highly internationalized university during recent decades. Almost half of the students are from abroad and an increasing number of classes are offered in English.
