Health and Humanitarian Action: Bridging the Gaps between Research and Practice
The workshop “Health and Humanitarian Action: Bridging Gaps between Research and Practice” took place on April 13, 2018. The event brought together distinguished practitioners and academics working on health in humanitarian crises to discuss challenges and opportunities to foster effective relationships. The workshop constituted the start of an important conversation that will be carried into additional forums at Yale University in 2018-19.
Forced Migration and Humanitarian Policy
The Colloquium on Forced Migration and Humanitarian Policy (October 4, 2018) was held to specifically focus on migration issues in Europe. Three distinguished speakers – Sara Barragán, Bayard Roberts, and Maggie Powers – reflected on challenges and gaps in the ongoing discourse, and shared their thinking regarding how to move forward and address these challenges in the years to come. Their insightful presentations were followed by reflections from two discussants, Professor Marcia Inhorn and Professor Jason Lyall, and a fruitful discussion that engaged the audience.
Engaging Humanitarianism
The Colloquium on ‘Engaging Humanitarianism’ was held in the Department of Anthropology at Yale in May 2013. Speakers included Dr. Sharon Abramowitz (University of Florida), Tim Allen (London School of Economics), Byron Good (Harvard), Catherine Panter-Brick (Yale), Joanna Radin (Yale), Peter Redfield (University of North Carolina), and Alex de Waal (World Peace Foundation, Tufts University).
