Terms, conditions, and entitlements

1.     The Fox International Fellowship entitles you to the following:   

a.     Travel to and from Yale University. Once you receive the visa, the program will purchase a two-way economy class ticket from your home country to New Haven and back. If you decide to modify the departure date, you will be responsible for any additional fees. The program will pay for one checked-in bag. Extra luggage will be at the fellow’s expense. The program will arrange for an airport shuttle from JFK or LGA airports to Fox Housing on the day of arrival. You will be responsible for the return trip. 

b.     Visa support: The Fox Fellowship will pay for the SEVIS fee, the fellow is responsible for paying other visa fees.

c.     Yale Health Insurance for  08/13/24-06/30/25.

d.     A stipend to cover living expenses, as specified in the award letter.

e.     A room in a shared Fox Fellowship apartment (or, in special circumstances, an additional $1,000 per month to help with housing expenses).

2.     Dates of the Program: August 13, 2024 – May 31, 2025 (preliminary dates, subject to change)

a.     Arrival Date: Tuesday, August 13, 2024

b.     Mandatory Orientation Dates: August 14-16, 2024

c.     Fall Semester start date:  Wednesday, August 28, 2024

3.     Other Funding:

Fox Fellows are required to inform the Fox Fellowship office if they possess or acquire any other source of funds during the Fellowship year. The Fox Fellowship reserves the right to adjust your Fox Fellowship funding accordingly.

4.     The Fellowship is Full-Time:

a.     The fellowship is given for the purpose of 10 months of full-time research at Yale University.

5.     Immunizations Record:

The CT State Department of Public Health requires that all full-time, part-time and exchange students, regardless of country of origin, attending classes on CT University campuses provide proof of adequate vaccination against measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella.

Prior to your arrival, you are required to submit a Vaccination Health Form. After you are fully registered with the Graduate School, you will receive an email with detailed instructions on how to submit the form.

NOTE: Required pre-entrance vaccinations are not covered by your Yale Health insurance and cannot be obtained at the Yale Health Center without incurring the full cost of the vaccination and administration.

COVID-19:

Yale University strongly encourages all students to receive all COVID-19 vaccinations recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , for which they are eligible. For more information, visit https://campushealth.yale.edu/covid-19-information.

6.     Residential:

a.     Fellows are expected to reside in New Haven for the duration of the fellowship, excluding research travel approved by the Director of the Fox Fellowship, and formal academic recesses (holidays and breaks).

7.     Fox Fellowship Housing:

a.     Fellows with no dependents in New Haven have an option to reside in Fox Fellowship housing.

b.     Each Fellow would have their own room in addition to a bathroom, kitchen and living room that would be shared with one or two other Fox Fellows.

c.     The Program will pay utilities (including electricity, heating, and internet).

d.     All rooms have basic furniture, kitchen appliances, and utensils.

e.     Each student will be provided with a new set of bedding and towels.

f.      Short-term guests are allowed in Fox Housing for periods of up to three weeks, contingent on the consent of other residents in the apartment.

g.     By agreeing to live in fellowship-provided housing, Fox Fellows agree to behave with courtesy and kindness towards other residents and resolve issues through communication and compromise.

8.     Participation in Fox Fellowship programming and engagement with the broad Yale community:

a.     Fellows are expected to engage proactively and in good faith with the academic community at Yale University.

b.     Fellows are expected to attend all Fox Fellowship programming, including, but not limited to: training sessions, seminars, retreats, and public lectures. A tentative list of events will be provided in orientation.

9.     Final Report:

a.     Fox fellows are required to submit a 5-page final report detailing their academic progress and describing their involvement with the host institution and the host country.

10.  Deliverables:

By the end of their appointment at Yale, the Fox Fellows are expected to submit one of the following:

a.     2-3 page policy brief detailing the policy relevance of their research 

b.     500-800 words opinion piece on a current issue that uses your academic background

c.     Academic article  

d.     Book proposal or chapter

More information will be provided during the orientation session.

11.  Early departure or late arrival:

a.     If a fellow finds it necessary to leave Yale University before the end of their fellowship, or arrive after the official start date of the fellowship, they must request authorization from the Fox Fellowship. Barring exceptional circumstances, the financial award will be prorated accordingly.

12.  Vacation Travel:

a.     Fellows are allowed to travel on vacation during the school breaks set by Yale University. All such travel must be reported to the Fox Fellowship office.

13.  Research and conference funds:

a.     Fellows are permitted to apply for additional funds up to $2,000 for the purpose of the fieldwork, archival work, or conference presentations. Decisions will be made by the academic Director of the Fox Fellowship.

14.  Classes at Yale:

a.    Fellows are not allowed to take courses formally for credit or audit; therefore, no transcript can be issued at the end of the program. However, fellows can sit in on classes with professors’ permission.

15.  Items not included:

a.     The fellowship does not provide for expenses in connection with: visa fees, passports, or photographs expenses.  

16.  Dependents:

a.     Students are allowed to bring in dependents (legal spouse, children ONLY) to New Haven, Yale University will provide the necessary visa support.  Fox Fellowship will provide a subsidy of $6,250 for a child up to the age of eighteen and a subsidy of $2,083 per child for additional children under the age of six for the duration of the program.

b.     Accepted Fox Fellows are expected to promptly inform the Fox office if they plan to bring a dependent.

17.  Remedies:

a.     Gross violation of these terms may result in termination or suspension of the Fox Fellowship award.
