Idan Barir

Idan Barir is a PhD candidate in the school of historical studies at Tel Aviv University, and a 2013-14 Fox International Fellow at the The Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale University. He received both his BA and MA from the Department of Middle Eastern History at Tel Aviv University. Idan is a 2014 Rotenstreich Fellow of the Israeli higher education committee. In his doctoral project, Idan examines the social history of Kirkuk in the late Ottoman period (1869-1914), focusing on the city's rapid growth during the period in question and on the social, political and economic forces that catalyzed or hindered it.
