Paolo Sosa Villagarcia
Paolo Sosa-Villagarcia is a PhD student in the Department of Political Science at the University of British Columbia, specializing in comparative politics and political theory. He also serves as the Country Coordinator for the Varieties of Democracy Project (V-Dem). He obtained a Bachelor of Social Sciences and a major in Political Science and Government from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). He has done research in a number of topics, including state-society relations, political parties, social movements, indigenous rights and multiculturalism, democratization and authoritarian legacies, among others. His doctoral dissertation examines the relation between intensive periods of crises and the rise of evangelical power in Latin America, using an interdisciplinary perspective. He is an active commentator on Peruvian politics, and has written several op-eds for alternative and mainstream media. He has also been a reporter on politics and social conflicts for LaMula.pe.
