Soyoung Kim

Soyoung Kim is a doctoral candidate in International Public Policy at the University of Tokyo. Her project looks at how the legacy of political conflict affects society, with a specific focus on human capital accumulation, economic preferences, and real-life socioeconomic behavior in the densest mine-contaminated areas, by combining an original field experiment and spatial analysis. She also leads work on the project on the impact evaluation of infrastructure intervention and the gender-biased child labor issues in developing countries. She is passionate about poverty reduction and sustainable prosperity across the globe, which makes her committed to providing feasible and efficient solutions to reach these goals in the future. Soyoung holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Tokyo and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan. Prior to commencing the research at Yale, she has worked at the Asian Development Bank Institute for two years, interned at the United Nations Volunteers and the Asian Development Bank, and served as a volunteer with the NGO supporting vulnerable people in Cambodia.
