William Attwell

William Attwell is Director – Climate Research at Sustainable Fitch, part of the Fitch Group, where he leads assessments of companies’ climate strategies, and manages research projects leveraging Fitch’s proprietary sustainability data to deliver insights for fixed income market participants. He worked on the development of Fitch Ratings’ climate risk assessment methodology for corporates, which is now integrated into the credit rating process, and is a member of the International Capital Market Association’s Climate Transition Finance Working Group. A recognized authority on the interplay between climate, nature and markets, William and his team have won Environmental Finance’s ESG research of the year (fixed income) in 2022 and 2023, and he has been the recipient of numerous FocusEconomics forecasting awards. He is regularly quoted in the financial media, giving interviews to Bloomberg, Financial Times, Reuters and Euromoney, among others, and his work on Biodiversity Financing has been cited by leading international think tanks and investment managers. William studied economic development and environmental law and holds master’s degrees from the University of Cape Town and Oxford University. He was a Fox International Fellow to Yale University in 2010-11. He lives in London.
