Jonas Elbousty holds MPhil and PhD degrees from Columbia University. He teaches in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Yale University, where he served as Director of Undergraduate Studies for seven years. He is currently Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Modern Middle East Major, and he also directs the Arabic Summer Study Abroad Program. He is the (co)author of six books, and three forthcoming books: Faces (Georgetown University Press, 2024) and Screams of War (Seagull Books, 2024), and Reading Mohamed Choukri’s Narrative: Hunger in Eden (Routledge Press), the first volume in English on Mohamed Choukri. His work has appeared in ArabLit, ArabLit Quarterly, Live Encounters, Michigan Quarterly Review, Sekka, Jadaliyya, Asheville Poetry Review, Banipal, Prospectus, Journal of New Jersey Poets, Journal of North African Studies, Comparative Literature, International Journal of Interdisciplinary Gender Studies, and International Journal of Middle East Studies, among other venues.
