The Modern South Asia Workshop (MSAW) is an annual, two-day convening which brings together advanced graduate students working on topics of current interest in modern South Asian Studies. Through 14 iterations, the MSAW has provided participants the opportunity to engage in scholarly dialogue with peers from around the region and globe, as well as faculty from the humanities and social sciences.
2025 MSAW
While we invite papers from all disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, particular fields of focus for the 2025 MSAW include political science, architecture, anthropology, and history. We particularly welcome papers that promote interdisciplinary exchange across these fields.
The 2025 MSAW will be held at a location in South Asia from June 7-8, 2025. Travel, accommodation, and meals will be provided to all selected candidates for the duration of the Workshop in South Asia.
Eligibility
MSAW participation is restricted to advanced PhD students in the humanities and social sciences who have completed all coursework and fieldwork and are in the process of writing and submitting their dissertations at the time of the Workshop. Students in terminal master’s programs are not eligible to apply, nor are recent PhD graduates. Applicants located in South and Southeast Asia are strongly encouraged to apply.
