Sudha Tiwari

Sudha Tiwari is a PhD student at the Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her doctoral research focuses upon the social and cultural history of contemporary India through New Hindi Cinema. The research takes up the role of the Indian state in the rise and progress of the New Cinema movement (1970s) and how this set of films could be taken as historical artifacts to understand Indian society. During her MPhil, she worked on the Partition of India as depicted in the works of SH Manto, Khushwant Singh, and Bhisham Sahni. She has been awarded a Junior Research Fellowship from the Indian Council of Historical Research for her doctoral work. Prior to taking up PhD at JNU, Sudha taught Indian and world history, and mass media at various undergraduate colleges in Mumbai. At Yale, She arranged film events which generated a global and comparative discussion between Fox Fellows, students and faculty.

Currently, she is teaching History at School of Liberal Studies and Media, UPES (Dehradun).
