Join us for a concert of devotional sung poetry from Bengal, featuring the singer Kankana Mitra along with musicians Bhīma-Karmā Vṛkodara Sāragrāhi and Steve Gorn. The concert will present songs from the genre of padabali kirtan that depict the lilas, or divine play, of the Hindu deities Radha and Krishna. Composed in a number of regional dialects of eastern India during the early modern period, the repertoire of devotional poetry presented in this concert remains central to the performative and literary culture in the region.
