The Council on Southeast Asia Studies Graduate Student Committee would like to invite you to a screening of Dandhy Laksono's Barang Panas/ Hot Stuff (2023). Dandhy Laksono is an award-winning Indonesian activist, investigative journalist and filmmaker. Barang Panas is an AIFIS film award-winning documentary and part of a trio of Indonesian films that delve into energy policies in Indonesia, corporate ties to those policies, and their detrimental effects on local environments and populations.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the director and producer via Zoom. The focus is on the filming process, energy policy in Indonesia, and the new Prabowo Subianto administration’s response to local grassroots movements in the country.
