For decades, the two countries’ interests and values overlapped such that they were the closest of allies and friends despite their huge disparity in size and influence. But a new era of raw power is upon us, as the Trump administration ends free trade and threatens annexation and as Canada responds by seeking to save what it can and pivot to Europe and Asia.
